Ice storm: Warmer weather could mean more power outages
TORONTO – There are concerns that a change in the weather could cause new power outages in some areas affected by last weekend`s devastating ice storm.
Temperatures are forecast to rise above the freezing mark over the next couple of days, and the winds are also expected to pick up.
Utility officials are warning that could lead to new outages as ice falls from trees and other structures onto power lines.
Roughly 30,000 customers in Ontario — 25,000 of them in Toronto — are still waiting for the lights and heat to be restored, seven days after the power went out.
Just over two-thousand customers in Quebec and about 12,000 in New Brunswick are in the same cold, dark, boat.
And Hydro officials are now saying that some may not be reconnected until the new year.
Amid the rising anger and frustration of those still in the dark, utility companies are pleading for patience, saying crews are working around the clock and nothing else can be done to speed up the process.

LinkedIn challenges US management over data requirements
LinkedIn, the business networking service, has mounted an authorized challenge to the US government's ban on disclosing the number of national security-related data requests it receives. US organizations are permitted to publish the total number of data requests, but cannot split the figure down to reveal the number made by security services.
US organizations are allowed to publish the total number of data requests, but cannot break the figure down to reveal the number made by security services. LinkedIn strongly believes that all data, whether analog or digital, whether stored on personal computers or in the cloud, is subject to full US foundation fourth modification protection, no less than documents stored in a file cabinet or in a desk drawer

Apple reveals two novel iPhone models: 5S and 5C handsets
Apple has unveiled two new handsets: the top-end iPhone 5S and a cheaper iPhone 5C at an occasion in California. The 5S introduces a fingerprint sensor built into the phone's main knob to recognize the user. The 5C comes with a synthetic back in a choice of colours. It marks a change of strategy for Apple which had not launched two distinct types of handset at the same instance before.
The iPhone is the firm's most main product in terms of earnings power. The new fingerprint system can be used to unlock the 5S and provide confirmation for purchases from Apple's online marketplace. The 5S' Sim-free price ranges from £549 for a 16 gigabyte version to £709 for a 64GB model. One analyst recommended the feature would help the handset stand out against its Android rivals.
